Internal data from Lands of America lists $221 million in land for sale in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. This represents a total of 35,044 acres of land for sale in the state. The most expensive land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $6 million, while the median price for land, ranches and farms in Minnesota was $228,528. The average price of land for sale in Minnesota was $307,098. There was 337 acres of sold land in Minnesota recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $2.1 million. Unsurprisingly given its unofficial state nickname, the "Land of 1, 000 Lakes, " Minnesota has water running through its proverbial veins. Trout fishing is popular in both its southern streams and big northern lakes, including Lake Superior. The state's 1, 300 wildlife management areas and three million acres of state forestland are home to game including moose, deer, bear and and ruffed grouse. In terms of size, Minnesota is the country's 12th-largest state, covering an area of 86,943 square miles (56 million acres). Of this area, 79,627 square miles (92 percent) of the state is land, while the remaining 7,309 square miles comprises water. Approximately 19 percent is considered public land such as national and state parks, national forestland or other federally protected land. As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Minnesota. Of the 87 counties in the state, Beltrami County had the most land and rural real estate for sale.
